IT TAKES LITTLE
TO BE BIG

our process

how does big brothers big sisters help Tadarrius?

Child safety is Big Brothers Big Sisters' highest priority. To achieve the highest standards possible, we work constantly to review and strengthen our background check systems as new best practices in the industry emerge. We also make sure our Bigs and our staff have the training and resources they need to help Littles on their path to success.

Screening & Training

Child safety is Big Brothers Big Sisters’ highest priority. To achieve the highest standards possible, we work constantly to review and strengthen our background check systems as new best practices in the industry emerge. We also make sure our Bigs and our staff have the training and resources they need to help Littles on their path to success.

Relationship Management

Children like Tadarrius get the most out of their one-to-one relationship with their Big when the Big, the parent or guardian, and the child talk openly with their Match Support Specialist. Working as part of the team helping the child succeed, the Match Support Specialist can help identify problems, brainstorm solutions, and connect the family with essential services.

matching

When Big Brothers Big Sisters works to match a Little with a Big, we take into account the needs, personality, interests, and goals of both the child and the adult volunteer. We introduce the Little and his or her family to the Big slowly and make sure everyone is fully committed to the match before it is made official. Little Sister Anessa is outgoing and likes to try new activities, so she needed a Big who was creative and had a variety of interests.

activities

When Tadarrius's Big Brother saw the email from BBBS saying that there were spots open in a free acting class, he jumped at the chance to take Tadarrius. BBBS affiliates across the country provide activities for Bigs and Littles and also alert Bigs to opportunities in the community. This enables Bigs to get to know other Bigs, who might be experiencing similar things and who might have great suggestions for more new activities..

RECENT MATCH STORIES

Daniel and his Little Brother, Q, have forged a strong bond over their shared love for sports. Recently, they had a fantastic outing at Top Golf where Q, initially unsure about golf, found himself enjoying the challenge. Afterward, they indulged in some delicious wings, a favorite of Q's. Since being matched, Q's confidence has grown. He recently tried out for football at his new school—and made the team!

When Big Sister Sarah and Little Sister Jada first met, they bonded over their love for crafts. They celebrated their seven-year match anniversary by making friendship bracelets together—Jada picked vibrant colors, and Sarah shared stories from their adventures. Jada beamed with pride when she showed off her creation. In year 8 together, Jada had the courage to try out for the flag team! Sarah is so proud and always raves about how talented Jada is.

Big Sister Kim and Little Sister Mirrakul recently enjoyed a fun outing together, where they painted and created vision boards. Mirrakul loved expressing her dreams and goals, and Kim was thrilled to see her open up. They both shared laughs and good conversation throughout the day. Mirrakul has grown more confident in sharing her feelings, which Kim has encouraged. Their bond continues to deepen, showcasing the positive impact of their connection through Big Brothers Big Sisters!

Patricia and Michelle have been a great match for 3 years! Their favorite activity is going to the movies together—but recently, they went bowling, where Michelle proudly declared, “I’ll beat you next time!” Patricia has noticed that Michelle is becoming more outgoing and confident. “She talks my ear off!” Patricia says, smiling. Their bond continues to grow, and Michelle’s enthusiasm for trying new activities shows just how far she’s come since they first met.
